National Vocational Qualifications are competence based and are achieved in the workplace. They demostrate your ability at work by recognising the skills, knowledge, ability, training and experience required to perform a job safely and in an effective and efficient manner.
All vocational qualifications are grouped together in different levels on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). This is a new way of recognising skills and qualifications and does this by awarding credit for units. Vocational qualifications are made up of units of study. Each unit has a credit value. Every QCF qualification is made up of a number of credits. The credit value tells you roughly how long it takes to complete the qualification.
NVQ assessment recognises your performance at work with a nationally recognised qualification. All skills are assessed through work based evidence and because of this there are no exams or end tests. Certification is based purely on evidence of your skills.
