Step three – CPCS Blue Card Renewals

Your CPCS Blue Competence Operator Card must be within 5 years of its expiry date to renew using this route. If the card has expired over 5 years please see ‘Expired Blue Cards’ at the bottom of the page.

The renewal process is split in to 3 steps, all steps must be completed before the new CPCS Blue card will be issued.

You can now book and complete your renewal test on line.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION- Removal of Grandfather Rights

Anybody who has been issued a blue card without having to undertake the relevant NVQ (Grandfather Rights) will now be required to complete a NOCN CPCS Competence Interview when you next renew your blue card. This is just a short discussion with a CPCS Tester about how you carry out your role in the CPCS category in your card. This will be in addition to the steps below.

CITB has agreed to sell its Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) to NOCN Group, one of the sector’s largest Awarding Organisations (AO). The old style CPCS cards (below) are still valid until the category expiry date. Below is the new design that is awarded from NOCN.

1. Health, Safety and Environment Test

(sometimes referred to as a touchscreen test)

This must have been passed, in the relevant category within the 2 years before you renew the card otherwise you will need to retake the test.

3. Proof of on-going Practical Experience

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SLINGER/ SIGNALLER CARD** This category now has 5 endorsements: A: All Types All Duties B: All Types Static Duties C: Lorry Loader D: Excavator E: Forklift Current cardholders holding Slinger/Signaller (A40) have only been tested against static duties meaning that upon renewing the blue card endorsement B: Static Duties can be awarded only.  If you would like to have endorsement A: All Duties added to your card then you will need to take a limited number of questions in a conversion theory test.
