What is the role of the Appointed Person

The Appointed Person (AP) is responsible for the planning of the lifting operations from its conception to the completion.

Whist the AP does not have to be present on site, their lift plan takes responsibility of the lift from when the crane arrives at the site entrance, for its passage through the site to the “setting up”  position, for the crane set up itself, for the lift, for the crane dismantling and for its egress from the site.

Complying with all relevant Acts and Regulations, Approved Codes Of Practice and for producing the necessary risk assessments and method statements

The AP can delegate designated tasks to suitable competent personnel but cannot delegate responsibility.

Target Delegates

The 5 day CPCS Appointed Person course is ideal for candidates with lifting experience and those who wish to become an Appointed Person. It is also suitable for Health & Safety Executives, or similar roles who wish to have an awareness of lift plans.

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with underpinning knowledge, in order for them to understand the role and responsibility of the Appointed Person. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to prepare and implement safe systems of work for lifting operations including writing risk assessments and method statements.

The course is a mixture of both theory and practical training and incorporates the CPCS theory and practical tests.

Successful completion of the tests will result in the issue of the CPCS Red card which is valid for 2 years.

The CPCS Blue Card Package is also available for all candidates, this includes the course and the NVQ.
The Blue card package is the cheapest and quickest way to gain your Blue CPCS card.

For those candidates who have experience as an AP and may already have the evidence they could use for their NVQ, they could have the option of the Straight to Blue CPCS card package.

Both the Blue card package and the Straight to Blue Package could also be suitable for candidates who have let their CPCS card expire.

Please ask for details and we will identify the option for your specific training needs
