What is a Slinger Signaller?

The Slinger/Signaller is responsible for attaching / detaching the load to and from the crane or lifting equipment and directing crane movements during the lifting operation.

The slinger/Signaller is the eyes and ears of the crane operator who can’t always see everything that is happening around them. They are responsible for giving clear signals or verbal communication to the operator to ensure loads are lifted and placed safely.

If you are new to the lifting industry (Cranes) then the Slinger Signaller  is the best course to start with. Ainscough Training Services offer a 4 day CPCS Slinger Signaller novice course at their training centre in Lancashire.

How to become a slinger signaller

Individuals can have little or no experience of working with lifting equipment to become a Slinger Signaller, in fact the role of the slinger signaller is the best place to start in the lifting industry, even before you progress to a mobile crane operator. As a mobile crane operator you need to understand the signals of the Slinger Signaller, at Ainscough Training Services we would highly recommend doing the CPCS Slinger Signaller course before your mobile crane operator course.

The only pre course requirement for the CPCS Slinger Signaller course, is that you will need The Health Safety & Environment test (HSE) for Operatives (or the higher tests of the Specialist Supervisors or the Managers & professionals (MAP) will also be acceptable).

This is a 45 minute touch screen multiple choice test consisting of 50 questions. This test can be taken at various Person Vue test centres though out the country, you can arrange your own test and locate your nearest test centre by clicking here.

Revision is strongly recommended for the Health & Safety Test; revision books, DVDs and downloads are available from CITB store.

If you are struggling to get a date for the health and safety test and your training course is imminent; if you are training at Ainscough Training Services in Lancashire you can take the HSE test at the beginning of course. Please ask for details and we will guide you through what you need to do.

Also, for the Slinger Signaller course a good understanding of spoken and written English. When you enquiry about a Slinger Signaller course with Ainscough Training you can discuss any concerns with the team and they will guide you and advise you before your decide to book.
